William Scherr

William Scherr

Managing Director/Investments; Branch Manager

Bill Scherr is a Managing Director/Investments at Stifel.  He joined Stifel in 2015 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas. Bill started his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for more than 20 years as a financial advisor within their Private Client Group prior to joining Barclays in 2012.

Bill was appointed manager of Barclays’ Chicago office in 2012.  In 2014, Bill was asked to assume an expanded role as Head of the West Region for Barclays, supervising the Chicago, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles offices.  He was named as a Managing Director in 2014.

At Goldman, Bill and his team focused on holistic wealth management, going beyond investments to assist clients with every area of their financial picture, including investment planning, investment banking, and credit.

Recognizing that each client is unique, each financial advisor on Bill’s team at Stifel works with only a few select clients to identify their needs and develop strategies with, and for, them.  By harnessing professional leaders across a variety of disciplines, within and outside of Stifel, the team seeks to provide clients with the best current thinking in estate planning strategies, asset allocation, and investment implementation with a goal of helping clients mitigate risk to and grow their wealth for themselves and future generations.

Bill’s leadership experience extends beyond business to significant community roles. He served as a board member of Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics, working closely with the mayor and city leadership during the three-year long bid process. He remains president of the bid’s legacy organization, Project Torch. Bill won an NCAA title in wrestling for the University of Nebraska and a bronze medal as a member of the U.S.A. Wrestling team in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Bill earned an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Sheryl Goldman

Sheryl Goldman is a Vice President/Branch Administration, Assistant Branch Manager within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  She has more than 30 years of experience as a professional in the financial services industry.

Sheryl joined Stifel in 2015 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, Americas, focusing on compliance and administration.  Prior to her tenure at Barclays, Sheryl had been a Vice President, Client Services at Lehman Brothers’ Private Investment Management division.  She holds Series 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 24, 53, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

Stuart Buck

Stuart Buck

Managing Director/Investments

Stuart is a Managing Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He joined the firm as part of its 2015 acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas. Prior to joining Barclays in 2012, he was a member of Goldman Sachs’ Private Wealth division for 24 years.  He specializes in single-stock and higher dividend equities, including master limited partnerships (MLPs), for the team.  

Stuart attended The University of Chester (formerly Chester College of Higher Education), where he earned a B.S. from University of Liverpool.  He taught high school physical education and mathematics and was head coach of the interscholastic soccer team.  In 1985, Stuart moved to the U.S. and attended Indiana University, where he earned an MBA in Finance from the Kelley School of Business in 1987.  Following graduation, Stuart was selected to join Goldman Sachs.

Stuart is a committee member of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s fundraising efforts in Chicago.  He is married with two children.

Edward Phillipp

Edward Phillipp is a Managing Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel. He has more than 40 years of experience addressing the complex needs of high-net-worth clients and institutions. 

Before joining Stifel in 2015, Edward served as a Director with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas since 2008.  Prior to his tenure at Barclays, Edward was a Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management.  He joined Lehman Brothers in 1979, having previously worked for Merrill Lynch since 1976.

Edward earned a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago and holds Series 3, 7, 8, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

Chris Prassas

Chris Prassas is a Managing Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He has more than 30 years of experience managing the complex needs of high-net-worth clients and institutions.

Before joining Stifel in 2015, Chris was a Director with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas since 2013.  Prior to his tenure at Barclays, Chris was a Director of Credit Suisse’s Private Banking division.  He joined Credit Suisse in 2000, having previously worked for the Private Client Services group of Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette (DLJ) since 1992.

Chris works with a select group of clients to develop and implement holistic wealth management and investment strategies.  He focuses on asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk mitigation.  Additionally, Chris has extensive experience managing customized fixed income portfolios and working with restricted stock plans.

Chris earned a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and holds Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

David Yaccino

Managing Director/Investments

David is a Managing Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He joined the firm as part of its 2015 acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  Prior to joining Barclays in 2012, he was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs’ Private Wealth division for 17 years.  He specializes in the fixed income area for the team. 

David earned a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College, where he earned four varsity letters as a three-year starter on the lacrosse team.  He earned an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. 

David is a member of the visitor’s board of Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh.  He is married with four children.

Tim Darragh

Tim Darragh is a Director/Investments in the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Stifel in 2016, Tim was a Director with Credit Suisse’s Private Banking North America division from 2003.  He started his career at PaineWebber in Philadelphia.  He also spent time at Alex Brown & Sons before moving to New York City, where he joined Hambrecht & Quist. After H & Q was acquired by J.P. Morgan Chase, Tim joined Credit Suisse.

Tim focuses on wealth management and alternative investment strategies for U.S. and foreign family offices, institutions, and high-net-worth individuals.  He works with his clients to identify their needs and develop customized investment strategies.  He has access to professional leaders within Stifel, as well as third-party professionals, to help in the formation and execution of these strategies.

Tim earned a B.S. in Accounting from St. Joseph’s University’s Erivan K. Haub School of Business.  He holds Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses, as well as life and variable insurance licenses (including annuities).

Mark Myers

Mark is a Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He joined the firm in 2015 as part of its acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  In 2008, he joined Barclays as part of its acquisition of the Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management division.  Mark began his career in 1983 and joined Shearson Lehman Brothers in 1984.

Mark leverages his understanding of wealth management and the global markets to provide clients with strategic and tactical asset allocation guidance and assistance in investment manager selection and alternative investments.  He works with a variety of clients, including individuals and their families, corporate executives, corporations, foundations, and endowments.

Mark helps his clients identify their goals, develop a strategy, and implement a customized plan of action.  By working closely with professionals across various disciplines, Mark offers a broad range of wealth management services, including investment planning, estate planning strategies, and capital markets. 

In addition to his financial advisor responsibilities, Mark is also an Adjunct Professor at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University, where he teaches a course on alternative investments.

Mark earned his B.B.A. in Finance from Pace University in New York City.  He is active in the local community and serves on the board of trustees’ sub-committee for Planned Giving at DePaul University, and is a member of the wealth advisory board at the Center for Financial Services as well.  He is a member of the finance committee of St. Clement Catholic Church of Lincoln Park.  He is also a past president of the Kenilworth-Winnetka Baseball Association, where he had been involved for more than 12 years.  Formerly from Winnetka, Illinois, Mark and his wife downsized and now live in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.  They have three 20-something-year-old sons and enjoy skiing, boating, and biking.

Matt Waldman

Director/Investments

Matt Waldman is Director/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He has more than 25 years of experience addressing the complex needs of high-net-worth families, foundations, endowments, and institutions.

Matt focuses on the design, optimization, and implementation of asset allocation and risk mitigation strategies.  Specifically, he concentrates on investment diversification and multi-strategy portfolio construction, which incorporates traditional equity investments, fixed income securities, structured products, hedge funds, and private assets.  Additionally, Matt has extensive experience facilitating non-purpose lending arrangements and restricted stock transactions.

Before joining Stifel in 2016, Matt was a Senior Vice President with UBS Financial Services.  Prior to UBS, he was a Director of Private Banking at Credit Suisse.  

Matt is a trustee for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) and serves as a U.S. Olympic ambassador in Chicago.  

Matt earned a B.A. in English and Philosophy from Boston College and holds Series 7, 31, 63, and 65 securities licenses.  

Amy Stender

Amy joined Stifel in 2015 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  Having been one of the first female financial advisors in the Drexel Burnham Lambert training program in the 1990s, her persistence and resilience in the industry has given her the invaluable experience of building and maintaining long-standing relationships with her clients, skillfully navigating the markets, and delivering highly personalized investment guidance.

Through her attention to detail, responsiveness, and follow-through, Amy strives to ensure her clients fully understand the selection process, what they own, and why they own it.  She also leverages Stifel’s robust research platform to educate her clients in the complexities of the markets.  She holds Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

Amy lives in Chicago with her husband and their two teenage children.  She is involved with the Gary Comer Youth Center and Charter School, the Latin School of Chicago, and Park Journeys. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, hiking, and snow skiing.

Michelle is a Vice President/Investments within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  She has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Before joining Stifel in 2015, Michelle served as a Vice President, Client Services in Barclays’ Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  Prior to her tenure at Barclays, Michelle was a Client Service Assistant at Lehman Brothers’ Private Investment Management from 2005 to 2008. 

Michelle earned an MBA from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business with a concentration in Finance.  She also received a B.S. in Finance from Northern Illinois University and holds Series 3, 7, 63, and 66 securities licenses.

James Brand

Vice President/Client Service

James began his career in 1994 at Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management.  In 2008, he joined Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas, as part of its acquisition of the Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management business.  He joined Stifel in 2015 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas. 

With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, James has a deep understanding of the wealth management business and has worked with the same team since he began his career.

James lives in Riverside with his wife, Debbie, and their two children.  He is also an avid runner and outdoorsman.

James earned a B.A. from Wittenberg University and holds Series 7, 63, and 66 securities licenses.

Graham Curchin

Graham is a Client Relationship Manager in the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Stifel in 2016, Graham was an Assistant Vice President, Client Service with Credit Suisse’s Private Banking North America division.  Prior to his tenure at Credit Suisse, he was an Investment Associate with Lehman Brothers’ Investment Management Group.  He began his career in 2000 with the Montgomery Private Client Services Group within Banc of America Securities, LLC.

Graham assists with the team’s portfolio implementation and manager due diligence efforts. Additionally, he supports the team in coordinating and implementing complex trading strategies for institutions and restricted stock transactions for Section 16 officers.

Graham earned a B.A. in Economics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and holds Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses.  He is an active member of his local community of Wilmette, Illinois, where he lives with his wife and two young boys.  He currently serves as treasurer of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Wilmette and is a trustee for the Diocesan Foundation Common Fund for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.

Lyndsey Handschiegel

Lyndsey is an Assistant Vice President/Client Service within the Private Client Group of Stifel. She has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Before joining Stifel in 2015, Lyndsey was an Assistant Vice President with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas since 2013.  Prior to her tenure at Barclays, she was an Associate of Credit Suisse’s Private Banking division.  Lyndsey began her career in 2005 in the Institutional Client division of Citigroup/Smith Barney.

Lyndsey directs the daily operations of the team, and her responsibilities include account management and order execution, as well as portfolio implementation and investment analysis support.

Lyndsey earned an MBA from Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business with a concentration in Finance and a B.S. from Indiana University Bloomington.  She holds Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

 Laura Bienz

Laura is a Client Relationship Manager in the Private Client Group of Stifel.  She has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Stifel in 2019, Laura was a Private Wealth Associate with Merrill Private Wealth Management.  She began her financial services career in 2008 with Credit Suisse Private Banking North America division, first as an associate with the Center for Wealth Planning and then as a Registered Client Associate.

Laura’s experience is rooted in assisting high-net-worth clients with their complex and unique service-related needs and reporting requirements in a holistic manner.  She plays a key role in managing client relationships.

She earned a B.S. from Butler University in Indianapolis.  She holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and acquired the Certified Financial Planner™ certification and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ designation.

Laura lives in Chicago and enjoys live music in her free time.

Myles is an Assistant Vice President/Client Service within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Before joining Stifel in 2015, Myles served as Assistant Vice President, Client Services with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  Prior to Barclays, Myles worked in the Institutional Sales Department at Uhlmann Price Securities.  Myles worked in the Denison University Investment Office while attending university.

Myles attained the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and earned a B.A. in Economics from Denison University.  He holds Series 3, 7, and 66 securities licenses.  

Zach Evans

Zach is a Registered Client Service Associate within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He began his financial serves career with Stifel in 2016 after earning a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Kentucky.

An integral part of the team’s operations, Zach assists with implementing customized asset allocation strategies while coordinating the information needed to analyze and evaluate client needs.  He holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses.

Formerly from Louisville, Kentucky, Zach and his girlfriend live in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.  He enjoys traveling, trying new food, and exercising.

Patrick is a Registered Client Service Associate within the Private Client Group of Stifel. He has more than five years of experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Stifel in 2017, Patrick worked as a loan analyst for a federally chartered mortgage lender, specializing in VA Loans.

Patrick earned a B.A. in Music Business Management from Columbia College Chicago and holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses.

Lauren Goldman joined Stifel as part of its December 2015 acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  She began her career in 1988 at a small municipal bond firm. In 1992, she joined Goldman Sachs & Co. in the Private Wealth Management division. She has been working with the same private wealth team for nearly 30 years.

Lauren is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign.  She is dedicated to serving clients with a high standard of care.  She holds Series 3, 7, 63, and 66 securities licenses.

She lives with her husband, Don, in Lincolnwood, Illinois.

Katherine Scott started her career in financial services at William Blair & Co. in 1993. She joined Stifel in 2015 as part of its acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas.  

Prior to joining Barclays, she spent nearly six years at Goldman Sachs, where delivering outstanding client service was her number one priority. She has been part of the same wealth management team for over 15 years.  

Katherine earned a B.A. from Michigan State University and holds Series 3, 7, 63, and 66 securities licenses. She has two teenagers and lives in Oak Park, Illinois.

Matt Joined Stifel in the fall of 2021. He works with Mark Myers and his team and assists in everyday operations. Born and raised in Winnetka, Illinois, Matt graduated from University of Denver, where he majored in Finance.

Outside of the office, Matt is an avid pickleball player and loves to ski and hike.

Andrew Combs

Client Relationship Manager

Andrew is a Registered Client Service Associate within the Private Client Group of Stifel.  He provides a high a level of professional service to the team’s clients, including gathering and implementing account-related, tax-related, and trading information.  He also supports financial advisors in building and rebalancing clients’ long-term asset allocation strategy, coordinates portfolio analysis, and creates performance reports.

Andrew started with Stifel after graduating from Miami of Ohio’s Farmer School of Business with a B.S.B. in Finance. He currently holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses. Outside the office, Andrew enjoys watching sports, fishing and cooking.
